Miquel Àngel Riera Nadal

rieraThe poet and narrator Miquel Àngel Riera was born in Manacor in the year 1930 and died in Palma in 1996.  Up to his death he spent long periods of time in his house in Porto Cristo near the grounds of the "Torre dels Falcons" view point, that nowadays bears his name.  A law graduate, Miquel Àngel Riera, was known by many buisnessmen in Porto Cristo for his work as an administrative solicitor. Despite his work as a solicitor, he is best known for his work in literature.

In the year 1965, Miquel Àngel Riera published his first  collection of poems, "Poemes a Nai", in which he emphasizes the importance of the 1927 generation ("Generació del 27") , and mainly Vicente Alexandre with whom he had a brief epistole relationship.  As a novelist, he may be considered close to the authors of the 70s

In the world of poetry as well as the "Poemes a Nai", Riera published "Biografia", "La Bellesa de l'home", Paràbola i clam de la cosa humana", Llibre de benaventurances" i El pis de la badia".  Amongst his novels his most prominent work is his realist works such as "Morir quan cal" or "Léndemà de mai" Moreover, he has other works that are a parable on external problems of the world such as "illa Flaubert" or "els Déus inaccessibles"

Miquel Àngel Riera strove for a work of quality, elaborated with out rushing and which showed a personal estimation.  The result is six poems, six novels and two short tales, a collection that is perceived as the most important example of Catalan literature from the second half of the XX century

The attention he pays to the human being and the quality of his literature, converts Miquel àngel Riera into an interesting writer who exceeds geographic, linguistic and temporal frontiers.  Due to his originality and his stylistic perfection, his works deserves the unanimous acknowledge of the critics and the readers.  Miquel àngel was awarded with the most prestigious acknowledgments known in the Catalan culture and he was nominated by the "Pen Club Català" for a Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 1987.
