Joan Moratille Terai
(2/10/1921 Asniéves, France - 29/7/2003 Porto Cristo)
As Modern Langauges Graduate (1946), he lived a great part of his life in Madrid He decided to dedicate himself to education, working as a history teacher. He also translated texts to Spanish and created the soundtrack to many documentary films. Because of this specific work, he was awrded the first prize at Brussels for Rodriguez de la Fuente's documentary "El águila real"
From 1951, he had strong ties with Mallorca and in the year 1981, he became a permanent resident of the island
Once living in Porto Cristo, being a great social and cultural driving force , he became the vice-president of the Nautical Club, vice-president of the pro-centenary committee (1888-1988) and secretary of the Christmas Competition organization (Patronat del Concurs de Nadales). We must also emphasize his facet as a press correspondent and as a collaborator for the following magazines: 7Setmari, Perlas y Cuevas and the Porto Cristo Magazine
To show his appreciation for the history and for the town which had given him such a warm welcome, he published, in the Porto CristoMagazine, a collection of volumes called "Porto Cristo entre ayer y mañana" (Porto Cristo: Past and Present). Moreover, in 1996 , he published a book.
In the summer of 2001, he became the Festes del Carme's town crier.
To show their thanks for his contribution to the history and culture of Porto Cristo, the residence of the town dedicated the square located at the entrance of the town, (between the Port i Navegants streets) to him
